10/10. Lovely hotel, intercontinental keep having my heart. The heating rod in the bathroom was amazing to have! There was a fire alarm at 5 am and we all had to leave the hotel, to the freezing cold, but the staff was very nice and ofcourse this was not the hotels fault. I hope to come back one day!

Loved your location . So walkable to everywhere . Used the bar Friday night six nations was in . Very busy but the staff coped well. The room was lovely. Fifth floor near the lift and a lovely view . Was up for a Birthday and seeing friends . Didn't use the lounge but it looked like you again had a lovely view and outside area . Breakfast was great the times for breakfast are correct we were earlier Saturday . Sunday everyone was later so at 0830 it was getting busier . We'd packed before coming down. Checkout was lovely. The library was being used otherwise would have loved to have had a nosy . Lovely flowers in reception nice fragrance and decor . Beautiful Older building with contemporary touches. Will use again .

The hotel was lovely however service could be improved. It was very dog friendly and we were provided with bowls and beds almost immediately upon checkin. The room itself was large and comfortable, well appointed and robes/slippers were provided. It was very quiet despite being very central in Edinburgh. We additionally upgraded our second night stay for a small fee which was appreciated. If you are travelling with dogs, be aware the restaurant next door (where breakfast is served) is very much NOT dog friendly so I would recommend eating elsewhere as there are plenty of other dog-friendly options in central Edinburgh. There are some areas which could be improved upon which are largely service-related: - I attempted to change our one night stay to two nights to be quoted an very high rate. When I replied to the reservations team stating that I could find the same room half price elsewhere, they stopped responding. This resulted in a two night stay being made into two separate bookings which was inconvenient and meant we had to visit reception in order for our room key had to be reactivated the next day. - The second day, we arrived back to our room to find a "supervisor" there checking the room. this was unusual given it was late afternoon. Despite this, the tea and coffee provisions were not replenished between nights. - I was told on checkout that a receipt for our stay would be emailed to me however this is still outstanding 48 hours later. I would recommend insisting on a hard copy at the time of checkout so this doesn't have to be chased up later. - Our second stay was part of a package which should have included a bottle of Prosecco, however this never appeared.

Nice 1 night stay and lovely upgrade to a suite size room with kind message and chocolates as it was a birthday gift. Comments here are based against expectation for overall price. Room was well decorated and mostly clean apart from a few stains on settee. 2 showers and a bath (small and wasn't piping hot on first day). Heating was noisy and room over hot on arrival. Nice complimentary drinks but discovered fridge did not work so juice/wine was war m when we wanted to drink. Very peaceful sleep and breakfast was superb. Great range of dishes. Staff friendly, informative and helpful. Hotel decoration is a bit bland (grey). We do recommend and we did enjoy our stay. Some of this is nitpicking given overall price and in comparison to other IHG hotels in Edinburgh.

If, like me, you’re thinking of booking The George, for Georgian period detail and character, you will be disappointed. Most of the hotel rooms are designated in a depressingly, soulless rear extension, where you can enjoy the constant sounds of industrial extractor fans and noisy elevators. The foyer, ballroom and restaurant are nice, well decorated areas and the location is perfect. Nevertheless, the hotel is let down by its service and rooms, which look nice in photographs, but in person, resembled a bland out of town corporate hotel. The furniture was in very bad condition and the bathroom was impractically small, making it dangerous to exit the weak shower, over the world’s smallest bath. Annoyingly, you’re not able to TV cast. I’ve stayed in better 3 star hotel rooms. Breakfast however, was very good and made the stay worthwhile. Strangely, room service didn’t happen. We placed a dinner order at 18:45, we were told it would take 40 mins, we rang again at 20:00, they said 10 more minutes. We rang again at 21:00 and cancelled. No apologies or explanation, nothing. If you’re undecided between The George and The Kimpton, I would recommend The Kimpton. It’s a little more walking distance but the service, rooms and facilities, far out weigh The George’s location. Would I stay at The George again? No.
