About Venue
Dovecot is a world-renowned tapestry studio, housed in a grand Victorian Baths, in the heart of Edinburgh. It’s a landmark centre for contemporary art, craft and design, and available to hire for special events. Established in 1912, Dovecot continues a century-long heritage of collaboration with international artists to make exceptional handwoven tapestries and gun-tufted rugs.
Dovecot has five versatile event spaces, allowing for all types of events including elegant banquets for up to 180, stylish drinks receptions for up to 500, meetings, and events. The expert Events Team at Dovecot work in partnership with caterers and production companies (audio visual specialists) to make your bespoke event come to life in our cultural and historic surroundings.
Alongside the tapestry studio, Dovecot run an exciting programme of exhibitions and events to further explore contemporary art, craft and design.
When you hire a space at Dovecot, your fee contributes toward the charitable mission of the Dovecot Foundation; established to ensure the long term future of tapestry weaving in Scotland.
Our Weaving Floor is our most sought after space. Previously housing an old Victorian swimming baths the room is steeped in history with a fresh modern appearance. The hire of the Weaving Floor also includes the use of the Viewing Balcony above.

Cancellation policy
Date of Cancellation Cancellation charge payable to DSL More than 28 days before the event the deposit paid or due More than 14 days and up to 28 days before the Event 50% of total booking value 14 days or less 100% of total booking value 1. The cancellation charges detailed above are expressed exclusive of any applicable VAT. 2. In the event that the Hirer cancels a booking that DSL has made on its’ behalf, for entertainment, audio visual equipment, furniture or otherwise, all cancellation charges shall be met by the Hirer.

The Dovecot moved to the old Infirmary Street Baths building several years ago. The space is well arranged, there are extensive exhibition areas in the building, including the area which used to be the balcony round the actual swimming pool; it makes an excellent display area - the collection there was exciting. There is a cafe, and a shop, too. The cafe food was excellent, and the staff welcomed us warmly. There should be a + after the 5* rating! Do visit if you can. And you can also see weavers working on new pieces. For actual details and time look them up on the internet… some of their exhibitions are ticketed.

BIBA exhibition is on until June and it’s a real treat! Delightful to see and read the history of such an iconic brand.
