Dating back in parts to 1559, The Old Ship Hotel is the oldest hotel in Brighton and stands proud on the bustling seafront in this popular British destination.

The largest suite in the hotel is the spectacular Paganini Ballroom, which dates back to the 17th century, and is the oldest meeting room in Brighton.

Me and my son stayed here just recently the room was clean and well kept. The hotel is opposite the beach and situated next an amazing fish and chip shop. There is a convince store next to that as well. So it everything you might need is right there. The service of the staff was great nothing was a problem they are polite and friendly with it. I’d highly recommend the old ship and will stay there again if I’m in Brighton. The lift that is over a hundred years old was really cool as well. Me and my son had fun imagining the sorts of people that might have used it in the past.

We stayed for a week this June. It 100% is a mixed bag and its a really difficult to recommend to everyone. Is it functional? Yes, it has everything you'd expect and the service/staff are lovely. Is it a premium 4 star hotel? No, its not. The place is falling apart and it is very dated. The rooms are paper thin, the breakfast was very bare and the shower pressure was terrible. If you're travelling as a couple and want a great location, then go for it. If you're a family or a light sleeper, i'd say no chance. Amazing history and location. I'd wait until the revenovation is fully finished before considering it. We stayed in a king room.

We didn't have a great time at the hotel, and the main reason was the mattress — it's extremely worn out and soft, making it impossible for my partner and me to sleep comfortably. The service was okay, I will say. We were upgraded to a Sea View room despite having booked a standard room, which was a nice touch. However, the Sea View rooms are quite noisy due to nearby clubs, so my partner asked if we could move to a quieter room — and they were happy to accommodate us, which we appreciated. That said, the whole reason we booked this hotel was to get a good night's sleep, and we simply didn't — largely down to the mattress. The hotel itself also feels quite outdated, though they are currently renovating, which I think is a positive step. It does have a quirky, old British charm to it, which is amusing. We didn't try the breakfast, so I can't comment on that. I'm glad we only stayed one night. Once the renovations are complete, I'd consider giving it another chance.

⭐☆☆☆☆ (Would give zero stars if I could) Absolutely dreadful stay at the Old Ship Hotel. I genuinely cannot understand how this place has a four-star rating on their website, it is completely undeserved and frankly unjust. The room was unbearably hot with no air conditioning whatsoever. There was a ceiling fan, but it was completely useless every rotation came with an irritating clicking noise that made it impossible to relax, never mind sleep. The window only opened a tiny amount (understandably for safety reasons on the second floor), which meant the room stayed stifling on a warm summer evening. Leaving it open was the only option, but then we were subjected to endless noise all night long: bin lorries emptying glass bottles from the hotel next door, drunk and foul-mouthed pub-goers shouting and arguing outside, a building alarm going off THREE separate times during the night and seagulls screaming constantly. To make matters worse, the corridor outside was full of banging doors and loud voices throughout the night. I genuinely did not feel comfortable or safe in the room. Do not be fooled by the glossy promotional photos, this place is tired, chaotic, and nowhere near as nice as advertised. You can’t see the sea, and you certainly can’t hear it. The website booking had no mention that the room was inland (overlooking an opposite building). We paid £100 for a “room only” rate and I did not sleep at all. This was honestly the worst hotel room I have ever stayed in. The hotel was fully booked, so changing rooms wasn’t even an option. Save yourself the misery: pay a little more and stay somewhere else in Brighton.
